Mentha piperita (Peppermint) Oil
Peppermint is an aromatic herb in the mint family. It’s a hybrid mint that’s a cross between spearmint and watermint. Peppermint essential oil can be extracted from the leaves of the peppermint plant and is used for a variety of different purposes. Records of the use of mint plants for medicinal purposes go all the way back to the times of Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome.
Peppermint oil has a soothing effect on chronic itching. Studies compared peppermint oil to minoxidil (Rogaine) and control compounds. The researchers found that a solution of peppermint oil led to growth of thick, long hair after four weeks of treatment, similar to results obtained using minoxidil.
Peppermint oil also has mild antimicrobial properties. Various studies have been performed to determine its effectiveness against different types of bacteria and fungi.
Melaleuca Alternafolia (Tea Tree)
The oil has been used for almost 100 years as a healing treatment in Australia, particularly for skin conditions. Tea tree oil is probably best known for its antibacterial activity.
Anti-inflammatory
Tea tree oil may help quell inflammation , possibly due to its high concentration of terpinen-4-ol, a compound with anti-inflammatory properties.
Dandruff and Cradle Cap
Mild to moderate dandruff related to the yeast Pityrosporum ovale may be treated with tea tree oil. People with dandruff who used a tea tree oil shampoo daily for 4 weeks showed significant improvements in overall severity, as well as in the levels of itchiness and greasiness, when compared with a placebo.
Participants experienced no negative effects. Many studies show tea tree oil shampoo effective for treating children with cradle cap under medical observation.
